CH. Khymera’s Dite Moi de l’Orage, FDCH, HIC, TT, CGC, CGN

Dite (pr. deet) came to me as a ten month old adolescent in May, 2002. He was bred and born in Denmark to Khymera Kennel owned by Trine Missel, and traveled to North America as an eleven week old baby. He was imported by Pat Morgan of Winjammer Kennels who then let me bring him home where he has been ruling the roost ever since.

He is a loving, highly intelligent, kind, co-operative boy. He is very short of back, fairly deep chested, a deep dark shade of red with a lovely compliment of charbonnage, complete scissors dentition, a lovely head with beautiful chiseling, and tail just to hocks. Dite’s father is Netherlands Best in Specialty Show Lotus de la Grande Lande, littermate to US Ch. Lochinvar.

His attitude is willing and loving. He loves nothing more than a good romp with a ball or Frisbee. He is actually a bit obsessed with balls and Frisbees. His "off switch" works well and when he comes into the house he lays down and waits for someone to move so that he can follow them, or he goes to sleep by my feet. I take him and his housemates on long walks through forests, fields or frozen lakes where he acts as the trailblazer, running ahead and making sure the path is safe for us all. He returns when called, but likes to go far, far out in his quest to keep us safe.

His flyball career lasted for one year. He got his flyball dog championship (FDCH) in that time, and was a perfect flyball dog, using his ball-drive and will to succeed to hone his art to perfection. We have started working at agility, as life allows. Here his willingness works in his favour as he wants nothing more than to please me. I have never done agility before and he is way too fast for me, so we are learning slowly in order to prevent physical or mental damage to a dog who would jump the moon if I asked him to.

Dite earned his Herding Instinct Certificate while we were at the National Specialty in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2005. The tester said he was a fabulous worker, very driven – which would be what we would have to work on if we wished to pursue this sport.

We are currently practicing for Rally Obedience which is a terrific sport for Belgians. Not only do they get to please their handler, but they get talked to, praised, and even petted while doing it, which is right up Dite’s alley. I sometimes think he’d turn himself inside just out to hear me say "Good boy!"
